Cosmetic Dentistry

People choose cosmetic and esthetic dental procedures for various reasons including gaps between the teeth, discolored teeth, crooked teeth, or just to improve their overall appearance. Whatever the reason, the ultimate goal is to restore a beautiful, healthy smile.

If you’re not happy with your smile, let us know. We consider your lifestyle, overall health, and other factors before we recommend the best options for you.

The most common procedures we provide at Dr. Kevin S. Bone, D.D.S., include:

Whitening or Bleaching Teeth

Aging, foods, tobacco, traumatic injuries, and medications all can cause your teeth to appear stained, dull, and discolored. More and more people seek tooth-whitening procedures to restore their brilliant smiles. Many over-the-counter products promise to restore youthful teeth. But use these products with caution. Many contain abrasive substances that can wear away the enamel on your teeth. Many also will not work on pitted or badly-discolored teeth. They also aren’t effective on crowns, bridges, bonding, or tooth-colored fillings.

If you’re interested in tooth whitening services, let our staff know. Professional whitening performed by our office is the safest, most effective and longest-lasting method. Professional tooth whitening can last as long as 5 years. We also offer advanced services for pitted or badly-discolored teeth. We also can restore your crowns, bridges, bonding, and tooth-colored fillings.

We offer options for bleaching including at-home teeth whitening dental trays and in-office methods.

Bonding is a procedure in which tooth-colored material is used to close gaps or change tooth color. The procedure gets its name because the material is bonded to the tooth. Bonding takes only about an hour to complete in the office and rarely needs any further work. Insurance often covers the cost of bonding, especially if it is done to reinforce tooth structure.

Contouring and Reshaping

Cosmetic contouring and reshaping instantly straightens crooked, chipped, cracked or overlapping teeth. Typically, the process takes less than 30 minutes per tooth and causes no pain, so no anesthetic is needed. The procedure is long lasting, so you don’t have to constantly repeat it in the future.

If your teeth are badly stained, poorly shaped or crooked, you may benefit from a veneer. Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain or plastic cemented over the front of your teeth to change their color or shape. We use them on teeth with uneven surfaces or chips. Veneers also are effective for discolored, oddly shaped, unevenly spaced or crooked teeth.

Veneers have a longer life expectancy and color stability than bonding. They also resist permanent staining from coffee, tea, or even cigarette smoking. Typically, veneers entail at least three appointments: one for diagnosis and treatment planning, one for preparation, and a third for bonding. Little or no anesthesia is needed.
